After losing to Texas and a terrible game against USF there was a lot of talk of the Alabama dynasty being dead. Not so fast. I am here to tell you that they are in fact not dead. Am I a delusional fan? Probably. But somehow I have regained my confidence in this team. There is still hope. Alabama Football still has life.
The Loss To Texas
I was at this game. Live and in person. And it really sucked. But looking back at it, it wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be. First off, Texas looks like they might actually be back. Secondly, Alabama made a lot of mistakes. Plus Texas had that crazy fumbled snap first down pick up that was somehow legal. Am I coping? Yes. There weren’t many bright spots for Alabama against Texas. But Milroe did show that he can throw the deep ball sometimes. I don’t know I’m definitely grasping here. This is all really predicated on Texas being good. Which I believe they are. And it was a 10 point game. People were calling it an ass kicking. I’ll agree that for Alabama standards it is. But a few plays here and there it’s a different game.
The USF Game
Truly just a burn the tape and forget it ever happened game. It was basically a hurricane all game. The game got delayed. And Alabama would have put anybody at quarterback that game. Besides Jalen Milroe apparently. They were searching for something that, turns out wasn’t even there. Nothing from that game means anything in my eyes. I wanted Buchner to be the starter going in to the season. Turns out Nick Saban knows more about football than me. I know, I was shocked too. We found out Milroe is the guy this year.
Ole Miss
I am not trying to say this was some amazing win for Alabama. But Ole Miss has given them trouble in the past. And they are a top 20 team. Alabama looked terrible in the first half and it could very easily have been a game where the players decide the season is dead and give up. Instead the came out in the 2nd half and took control. Milroe did throw a pick, but he looked a lot better. 17-21 is a good day throwing the ball. He has the ability to make the plays. The run game is starting to look good and the defense only gave up 56 rushing yards. Facing a lot of adversity this team showed up and got a win. And that has gotten me all the way back in.
The Outlook
Let’s not forget, Alabama has only won 2 of their 6 national championships under Saban with an undefeated record. And if you are going to lose a game it’s best to do it early. So what does the rest of the year look like? Alabama only has two games left on the schedule against teams that are currently ranked. Both of them are at home. They have Tennessee, who got blown out by Florida, and LSU, who doesn’t look like the team everybody thought they would be. Both of those games are revenge games from last year and I fully expect Alabama to take care of business. They have Texas A&M and Auburn on the road. Two teams that love to play Alabama tough. Just sounds like opportunities to prove themselves again to me.
Still Hope
There are no great teams that are head and shoulders better than everybody else this season. If Alabama wins out they will still be in the SEC Championship Game. And if you win that there is little chance you get left out of the playoff. I am not saying that this is going to turn into one of the old teams that dominates everybody. But I do think they are going to get better every single week. Milroe is a playmaker. He is going to make mistakes but he also has the ability to bail you out with his running ability. Oh yeah and did I mention that Alabama is number 1 in the Sagarin ratings?
I’ve always said whatever that metric means is my favorite metric. That’s definitely not the first time I’ve ever seen it before. Very important stuff. And Alabama is still striking fear into their opponents.
That’s an SEC coach talking there. And he said this team is fun to watch. Things are looking up folks. I have a newfound belief in this group. Alabama Football still has life. I’ll say it again, Alabama football still has life. That’s how much i mean it. I said it twice. Twice. Also they are +3300 to win the championship. Very juicy odds. And most of my NFL Futures Bets are looking good. So maybe I know what I’m talking about. Hopefully. Let me know what you think of Alabama’s chances over on twitter here. Or X, whatever we call it nowadays. I’ve doubted Alabama and Nick Saban in the past. Not this time. There is still hope.
